Bowja The Ninja

"Fun, nice game... but..."

submission: Bowja The Ninja

(Beware some mild spoilers)

I liked the style, the cutesie graphics and some of it was rather clever. However if you just click enough you're likely to find out what you have to do pretty easily. Perhaps in the next game have it so you have to click on things in more of a time conscieuse way. Clicking 1 thing and then another for the action to work.

The boss fight was wow, understated, the first think I clicked on killed him. Now I think you meant to do it on purpose as a joke, and it was pretty funny. But it may have been better if you drew attention to the fact it is a joke... maybe the charachter should spawn a little speech bubble with ... over his head when it happens.

To have got higher marks from me, I'd need more of a challenge, but it is a very appealing game in looks and gameplay. Nice way to use 20 minutes.

You get a lot of things with the same kind of feel that just create the 'WTF' reaction and then are over. Whereas with this you get the 'WTF' with a competent game behind it. In some areas its actually challenging... I found the punching man, hammerfist and the first mouse quite hard. There were some funny characters and because it had a plot (albeit a nonsensical one) I played it all the way through.

Good Job. I'm impressed.

Enjoyable Horse Racing

"I say nay"

date: February 28, 2008

You really need to cap the debt... allowing the player to borrow as much as they want means they can bet stupid amounts at the start of the game... unlock all the prizes without even racing... with giving the player essentially an infinite amount of money you really give them house advantage... with careful doubling up on a two horse match you can essentially make as much money as you want through maths.

To me this spoils the fun of the game.

I found the gambling controls kinda irritating to use... would have prefferred an odds based system, perhaps.

I quite liked the graphics... no complaints there... overall could be a good game if you sorted out the money system (which is essential to a game like this) and perhaps included more stuff to buy, the possibility of sponsoring a horse (and making more money on it when it wins) giving the horses personality (which would work well in an odds system e.g. have the steady horse that often wins but with bad odds, the tempermental horse that sometimes does amazingly well sometimes awfully, the old horse that almost always loses but has great odds).

Classic Video Poker

I wish this was a real slot machine :)

I'm currently on 216mill ;)

It's fun and simple, the simplicity being also its downfall - after a while there just isn't much to keep you interested... remember in real slot machines/video poker games you're playing with real money - hence the thrill. With this perhaps a ranking system or bonus games may make it more fun.

"My first 10/10"

Unfortunatly my computer lagged with this game, but I'll blame my computer not your game as my computer probably deserves a place in a museum. So I only played up to a point where the lag got too bad.

That said from what I did see, I saw a stylish, fun, simple to control, challenging game. I imagine when you get up to 5x... 6x... you have to be incredibly 'on the ball'.

I can't really find much to criticise, perhaps the one small thing I would change is when you get down to 1 game for it to stop doing the zoom out zoom in thing except for when the speed changes, but that really is a minor point.

You get my first 10/10, because I really cannot fault the style, originality and feel of this game.

"Really nice game"

date: February 14, 2008

Really nice game.

My only problem with it is I can't help thinking that the elite units are a little too weak. For instance... the archers great against flying units... but then by the time you can afford him there may only be one or two waves left of flying units left. Similarly with the alchimest, who's good against swarms(i wouldn't say great) but there are so few swarms I feel he is somewhat not worth the cost.

When I think I could have 10 - 15 mages for the price of one of these guys they do pale in comparison.

That out of the way, this is an extremly strategic game. I found I had to build from the back to allow my units an equal distribution in power which was interesting (as in most defence games you can upgrade anyone in the battle field). The names were a nice touch as was the map and the little details you put in. The skills were also interesting, I guess not original (as most defence games have tech) but certainly done in an interesting way.

Perhaps a double speed button would be good. But I wouldn't implement a multiple wave button as some have suggested (think how strong the alchemests would become then in comparison to other units).

This game is good overall. A nice concept. I read earlier someone said this was a violent communist game... that guy clearly needs to check his political dictionary.

What I liked about the game was the quirky mix of strategy and action. I thought the graphics were nice. The idea was pretty original.

What I didn't like about the game is by saving your money earlier on you could zoom through the later levels really quickly. If you didn't destroy the enemy carriers you could make a lot of money and those fragile trees could you boost your health so dramatically... if you shoved them behind a lot of turrets the enemy couldn't get to them.

I'd also make the turrets stronger and you weaker, this should improve some of the strategy element... maybe also build some enemy artilery to hit the trees at the centre.

The final criticism is the game was rather slow... occasionally you got great bits of action... but if you do hit the carriers rather than the people I imagine it could go on for hours... and surely that's not good. Personally what I'd have done is have the action on a time scale not a level scale. That way you can't dither about collecting money to use later.

Despite these criticisms good game, I played it to the end.

I find it wierd how when you get blown to pieces you lose a life... but when your string gets cut you get gameover... Seems odd...

Not necessarily a bad thing, just odd :P

Nice Game overall, nice style, but not really enough there to keep me interested. At the moment it seems more like a game you'll play for five minutes or so, which (again) isn't necessarily a bad thing. Being able to kill the bad guys could change that.

Firstly I would like to congratulate on a great looked and feeling game. You seem to have done most of the leg work on this game but you're missing a lot of the extras that would have made this a fantastic game.

First of, when you find a ship it should say if it's a big ship, a medium ship or a small ship (in relation to yours). Some times when you retreat the enemy ship should chase you and you should have to fight it (this should only occur if its med or smaller than you).

IMO you should conquer a city much like how you fight a ship - a port could have a couple of ships and a tower in it. This would make it easier to give a plundering award for doing so as it would involve skill rather than numbers.

Raydar is probably essential.

Further you should make missions from the castle (eg capture this base in a month, take a hostage to another city - and then make it so you get randomly attacked more than often on route.

I think you shouldn't be able to dock into over countries ports unless if your a pirate, but if you're a pirate, all enemies should attack you on sight.

Overall good game, but these changes would probably have kept me playing until I'd conquered the map.
